Note: There is a similar painting in the collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (Accession #1991.094.027). Shelton was raised in the Drumheller Valley, in Rosedale, and spent significant time in the area again in the 1940s, keeping her widowed mother company. Shelton based numerous block prints on images from this area, including several of the Gawdun property: “Gawdun’s Shacks” (1937); “Gawdun’s Waterwheel” (1942)”; and “Gawduns, Robin Hood Hills” (ca 1948).
