Note: This piece is from early in Gissing’s career (likely from the 1930s or early 1940s). By 1935, the artist had moved into oil as a primary medium , following his initial work in pastels and watercolour. Gissing’s first home, including his studio and many works, were destroyed by a fire in 1944, leaving few of these early pieces.
