Note: This early oil likely dates from the 1930s or early 1940s. By 1935, the artist had moved into oil as a primary medium , following a period where he worked and exhibited exclusively in pastels and watercolour. A fire in 1944 devastated Gissing’s first home and studio, along with many works; as such, these early pieces are rare.
