Note: Robert Dow Reid was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1958. His grandfather was a sea captain and, as a teenager (1940s/1950s), Dow Reid worked on whaling vessels. His art expresses his genuine interest in sea life and marine animals. From 1964 until his recent death, the artist resided in Kelowna where his public sculptures, “Spirit of Sail” (commonly referred to as “The Sails”) and “Rhapsody” (three dolphins) are iconic landmarks.
