Robert Davidson is a 4th generation carver: His great-grandfather is the famed early Haida artist Charles Edenshaw (1839 – 1924); his father Claude Davidson grandfather Robert Davidson Sr. were both respected carvers. The younger Davidson began carving argillite at the age of 13 to carry on the family’s artistic tradition. As a young man, he trained with Bill Reid. Over his long 60 year career, Robert Davidson has become one of Canada’s most important and respected contemporary artists.
