Note: Kathleen Daly spent significant time in the Rocky Mountains and the Bow Valley during the 1940s while recovering from polio. While in Canmore, she produced a number of sketches and paintings of the coal mines and the miners who defined the community in its early days. In doing so, she has captured a notable and enduring part of Canmore’s history, one that has shaped the town, and yet contrasts so strikingly with the picturesque resort town of today that heralds the entrance to Banff National Park.
