Provenance: Former collection of the late Alfred Fanthom (Calgary AB), and by descent through the family. Alfred Fanthom was a sniper during WWI. Having returned to Calgary with his health compromised from gas exposure, he took on custodial work at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art and the Coste House. Here, he made friendships with many of the artists and instructors. This piece was obtained directly from Glyde, who came to the Institute as a drawing instructor in 1935, becoming head of the Art Department later that year; he held the position until his departure in 1946.
