Note: Hans van Meegeren is a notorious forger whose works have hung in museums around the world. This work is a copy of a painting in the Berlin Museum long considered to be one of Rembrandt’s masterpieces but de-attributed in 1985. The date and signature were likely added later, during Meegeren’s 1945 trial for conspiracy and forgery.
