Note: Duncan Macpherson was a noted and decorated political cartoonist. He studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Art and the Ontario College of Art. During his career he worked as an illustrator for the Montreal Standard, Maclean’s, and the Toronto Star. This painting is illustrated on page 118 of “Macpherson’s Canada” (Toronto Daily Star; 1969). The book includes a collection of original paintings and drawings that were created by Macpherson over the span of four years while he travelled Canada, documenting its people, and noting his impressions. A copy of the book accompanies this work.
