Note: After her retirement from teaching in 1972, Doris McCarthy embarked on the first of many painting trips to the Arctic. With an evident passion for the Canadian North, her arctic landscapes, particularly icebergs, would go on to form a large body of her work. In 2004, at the age of 94, McCarthy made her final trip to the Arctic.
