Note: This work is a rare, early example depicting Sapp’s grandmother, Maggie Soonias (Nokum). Sapp maintained a strong connection with his grandmother, who raised him after his mother passed away. Nokum had a profound influence on Sapp’s life and career and is the subject of many paintings.
