Note: Born in Amadjuak, Nunavut, Abraham Etungat moved to Cape Dorset, the centre of Inuit carving, in the 1950s. He began carving when deteriorating health prevented him from hunting. Best known for his depictions of birds with raised/outstretched wings, the “Bird of Spring” image is featured as a large scale installation in several public spaces across the country, including in Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax, and Calgary (Connaught Park). Etungat was elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2005.
