“Chief Body was born in 1879 and also had the names Favorite Child and Many Beaver People. He received the name Chief Body when he reached maturity. He was a member of the Horn Society, the leading religious organization of this tribe, as well as several other secret societies. According to tradition, the name Chief Body had been given to a handsome warrior who refused to attack an enemy in hand-to-hand combat. In anger, a medicine man had named the warrior Chief Body, saying that he was a chief because of his fine physique, not because he was a brave leader.”
