Notes: signed verso and inscribed “Cowichan Tribes”
Provenance: Northern Art Impressions Gallery, Lake Louise AB
Note: Cicero August began carving at the early age of eight. He became one of Simon Charlie’s first students, apprenticing with the master for four years. His large totem installations can be found across British Columbia, including the largest, in front of the BC Legislature in Victoria and along the Totem Walk in Duncan.
Each of the figures on the totem pole carries specific meanings: the eagle signifies freedom and courage; the mountain goat, balance and harmony – a reminder to stay grounded and connected to the earth; and the
turtle, symbolizes fertility, long life and perseverance.
